Noel: Where every day is Christmas
Around the world, people are getting ready for Christmas. But by the end of December it will be all over, except at Noel in Athens.
Noel is a Christmas themed restaurant and bar in central Athens, on the popular Kolokotroni street. Kolokotroni has risen to join Kolonaki as Athen’s most popular places for laid-back eating and late-night drinking. Make sure to add it to your Athens list!
We came to Noel for brunch, ordering all four of their key brunch dishes: egg’s Benedict, Tuscan omelette, scrambled eggs and Noel breakfast. The scrambled eggs and omelette are served up with potatoes and two bread buns designed to cure even the most serious of hang-overs.
In London, eggs Benedict often comes with ham, smoked salmon “Royale” or spinach “Benedict Florentine”. But the original Eggs Benedict, named after retired Wall Street stock broker Lemuel Benedict, is actually with bacon. Noel offers the American version, using smoked pancetta, two poached eggs and “a hooker of hollandaise” in the words of ol’ Lemmie atop a grilled English muffin.
Noel breakfast is fantastic value at €12. Choose two eggs any style, a choice of ingredients (prosciutto, salami, cherry tomatoes, mozarella, parmesan, rocket) served with two bread buns, as well as a slice of cake, three spreads (jam, chocolate, honey) and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Had we come for lunch or dinner, the menu offers sandwiches, salads, burgers, pasta and pizza – and a choice of desserts. The drinks list and bar, with a list of 21 delicious cocktails, is popular and buzzing day and night. It is the “in” place right now among the Greeks, but you’ll also find a few tourists knocking about, everyone is welcome!
