Instagram is where I get a lot of my travel inspiration.
Just by following a few friends, bloggers and igers you can quickly discover the best and most popular places to visit around the world. It’s our generation’s way of saying we were here! Like a postcard.
Social media is having a huge influence on tourism and travel. Especially for a small country like Portugal. The Palacio da Pena has been here for ages, but it’s thanks to platforms like Instagram and blogging that have made going there cool again. Today you’ll see beautiful bloggers and young couples posing in front of the palace when I can remember a time when it was mostly families and old people!
Notice how photos of the same places crop up time and time again. That’s because the majority of people still travel to see the most iconic sights and landmarks. They want that photo of the Taj Mahal, Big Ben, Acropolis, Eiffel Tower… But thanks to the virality of social media, lesser known places are also being put on the map, such as Aruba’s flamingo beach, Arizona’s lower antelope canyon, France’s lavender fields or Singapore’s gardens by the bay.
To get a sense of the top attractions through Instagram, search the hashtag in the same way as looking up a keyword in google. #Portugal #Lisbon #PenaPalace #PasteisdeBelem. It’s that easy. So without further ado, here are a few of the most instagram-worthy places in Portugal. How many have you visited?
